Improvise Like a Pro Over the Blues & Create Authentic-Sounding Solos That Impress Your Audience in as Little as 4 Weeks

(Without having to know a ton of theory or needing miles and miles of technique)

Does this sound like you:

  • Tired of running up and down a Blues Scale when improvising on a tune?
  • Frustrated because you just sit there thinking, 'nope I got nothing' and then when you play you just meander around playing nonsense?
  • Running out of ideas, especially when the chord changes come too fast or you're playing in the most difficult keys?
  • Need to connect the chords more smoothly when improvising so you sound like you know what you are doing when performing in front of others?

Picture this scenario...

You just joined a band that plays Blues, Rock, Funk and maybe some Pop songs, and you're performing for a community event.

The charts are easy to play, and the band sounds really good.

The bandleader wants to open up a bunch of the songs for solos.

You start to feel a pit in your stomach.

You don't want him to call on you, so you don't look up.

The tension in the room is so thick right now...it feels a little hard to breathe.

You're praying for this moment to pass...you just want to play the charts and not worry about making a fool of yourself in front of your bandmates and your audience.

He DOES call on you to take a solo, and you panic.

You wave him off and mouth the word, "No". (But secretly inside, you feel so ashamed.)

He's okay with it, and calls on someone else.

As the night goes on, you get more and more angry with yourself for turning down the solo.

You wish your solos didn't ramble on and on because you had no idea where you were in the song...

That they sounded much cooler...

That you could impress your bandmates instead of feeling their snickering...

The show ends, and you are more exhausted from the fight in your head than you are from playing the gig.

And you're left wondering, "Will there ever be a day where I WILL look up and take that solo?"

Can you relate?

What would it feel like if you knew you could solo with confidence over your favorite Blues, Rock or Funk songs?

Scenario Number 2...

Saturday's approaching, and that means that you have 2 gigs lined up that day...

A well-paying wedding reception and a club date at a high-end restaurant across town later that night.

Should be a great pay-day for you!

You're looking forward to playing because you're performing with A+-level players.

You know... the musicians that play in big-name jazz clubs...that tour with well-known players all over the country.

You get to the gig and feel really excited.

The bandleader picked a great set list that features you in almost every song.

As you're playing each tune, you're getting more and more confident, and finding ways to be more creative with your ideas and lines.

By the end of the gig, you're tired...and it's not from fighting all the emotional chatter in your head.

You're tired because you played 150% and gave it your all for each tune.

The bandleader comes up to you afterwards, thanks you for a great gig, and gives you a whole slew of new dates.

Life couldn't be better!

I Can Relate to BOTH of Those Scenarios!

When I first started playing out in clubs and taking solos, I didn’t know what I was doing.

I had extensive classical training, so I was a great reader, but for the life of me, I couldn’t create a cool solo, certainly not by ear.

In college, I was taught to memorize tons of patterns, in every key, but I didn’t understand the connection between playing those patterns and creating a solo.

And when I got on the bandstand, I would get lost in the form, I played the wrong notes over the wrong chords, and was really embarrassed, especially since I had all that classical training!

I would start making excuses..

Excuses as to why I shouldn’t take a solo during a performance…

Excuses for why I didn’t sound good compared to everyone else…

“It was my equipment...I couldn’t hear myself in the monitor” (or I had no monitor and the guitar was so loud in my ears)...

"I got distracted by someone in the audience.."

the list goes on...

So I thought I would write out some of my solos, and try to memorize them.

Maybe that would sound more professional, right?

But when the time came to play the solo in the song, if I made one little mistake, it threw me off for the rest of the solo, and I couldn’t recover.

I was desperate!

I didn't want to keep looking like a fool every night.

It was killing my confidence.

So I bought every method book available at the time...but that didn’t help.

And there were no online courses at the time that I could take.

What was interesting was that I found one of my best mentors through an ad for people to join a band.

The ad was posted on the bulletin board at Sam Ash (back when they allowed people to post ads!)

This teacher, Lou, changed my perspective away from learning a million patterns and trying to craft the perfect solo to something more instinctual...

Something that was more musical and authentic to the styles of music we were performing.

Slowly, I was feeling a little less embarrassed with each gig.

Then, another incredible mentor really opened up my eyes.

When I studied with the legendary Gary Burton at Berklee College of Music, I discovered a totally different way to approach soloing that was less stressful and more creative.

That led to me being so much more comfortable on stage, it was like my second home.

I was eager to play solos - I wanted to solo over every tune.

I was performing in well-known historic venues like the Whiskey A Go-Go and the Viper Room in Hollywood,

and larger venues like The House of Blues in Anaheim, The Paramount NY and the Wolf Den at the Mohegan Sun.

And I was loving it!

That was a huge change from being so embarrassed and asking others to solo in my place.

I Want That Same Level of Confidence For You!

I want YOU to feel more confident improvising.

To create solos that are more exciting and sound authentic to the style you are playing…

That will make your audience members cheer and want to hear more…

That make you feel like you belong on that stage!

Solos that push you out of your comfort zone so that you are not playing the same tired old riffs over and over again.

You can create exciting, authentic-sounding solos and feel more confident improvising with my course...

"This course turned out to be Goldilocks -not too basic and not too advanced for me. The exercises were well-thought out, and gave me plenty of opportunity to practice new things that I'd learned during the class.

If you're looking for some new musical Blues ideas...tune into this course. Donna will lead you through some pretty good examples and exercises to do just that.

If you feel like you're in a rut, and your solos tend to be not musically interesting... they ramble, they repeat, they sound the same...definitely do this!"

Wendell Martin

"Donna has a great deal of experience teaching improvisers of all levels. She has so much experience as an educator, and as a player. That's not a combination you get very often."

Lisa Borg

"The exercises Donna taught were deceptively simple, yet had profound benefits on your playing. And I've already applied many of the practice techniques that were learned in the course to other Jazz standards I am working on. This isn't stuff you only use on a Blues solo."

30-Day Conditional Guarantee

There is a Conditional 30-Day Guarantee.

You need to show us that you've done the work for the Modules 1 & 2.

Then, if for some reason you feel like you're not getting results after applying the concepts from Modules 1 & 2, you'll get a full refund.

No course will help you unless you use it and apply the concepts from it.

This course has brought fantastic results for those who previously enrolled and did the work, and I want the same for you!

We've got A's for your Q's

What's the format?

This is NOT a Live course. These are pre-recorded video lessons that you can watch at any time anywhere, as long as you have a good internet connection.

You also get downloadable pdf’s and audio files.

There are no physical books or materials in this course.

Are we just learning the Blues? - I want to learn bebop

This course will focus on the Jimmy Smith version of Honky Tonk, a tune that is rich with vocabulary for many other styles, including Bebop.

So I will be teaching my systems and how to improvise based off of this basic blues tune.

But there will not be Bebop-specific lines in this course.

How much theory do I need to know?

It would be best if you could spell a basic chord - triads and ideally Dominant 7th chords.

I will introduce some concepts to you in the course.

But when you take this course, you’re going to see the practical theory you need to improvise, based on the level you are at now.

Is this course only for saxophone players?

No, it’s for all melody instruments.

While we will be focusing on some amazing saxophone solos, and the sound effects and jam session bonus are mostly horn-based, my systems for learning improvisation and the vocabulary we learn will apply to all melody instruments.

I have had a number of guitarists enroll in many of my courses because they want to learn how to solo like a horn player.

Do I need to be at an advanced level of improvisation?

No! In fact, this course is best for those who struggle with improvising and have a hard time thinking about what to play...

When you take this course, what you'll see is that the step-by-step improvisation systems I guide you through will address all those concerns and apply to any style of music.

I developed these systems because I went through the exact same struggles when improvising.

And if you want to get into more jazz standards or Rock, Indie music, even other genres where you can’t just use a Blues or Pentatonic scale, you will be able to apply these systems to those tunes.

Who is this course NOT for?

Pro players...unless you want to learn my systems to teach them with my permission. I have had a number of students do that in the past.

What's your refund policy?

From having taken dozens of online courses myself, I know that I got the best results from the courses that I actively participated in.

I did not expect to get results if I did not do the work.

The same applies for this offer.

I can't possibly help you if you don't put in any effort.

If you followed the concepts from Modules 1 & 2 (not just the Welcome Module), and are not hearing improvements in your improvisation, contact us within 30 days and show us your work.

Once we see that you have not made improvement, we will issue a refund.

How do I know it's for me?

Are you are tired of handing off solos because you are "not ready?"

Do you feel stuck trying to come up with your own ideas for your improvisations?

Ready to break out of your rut of playing the same riffs over and over?

Are you a beginner or intermediate level improviser who wants to play with confidence, and sound more authentic when you solo?

If you answered YES to any of these questions, then Boost Your Blues Improvisation is Right For You!

I can’t afford it now. Can’t I just buy it later?

Absolutely! But you will not get this discounted price. You would be paying the full price, which will be much higher.

What Would It Cost You To Continue Struggling With Improvisation?

Improvising is a higher form of expressing ourselves.

And there's nothing more powerful than being able to express how we're feeling.

Soloing over the Blues can be one of the most creative ways of showing emotion and telling a story.

But done the wrong way can leave you and your audience unfulfilled.

It can leave your bandmates confused.

And can make you feel like you'll never understand the "mystery" of jazz improvisation.

That it's a secret you'll never crack.

Especially if you keep approaching jazz improvisation the same way, day in and day out.

Think of all the hours spent struggling to try to create the "coolest" lick, only to have it fall flat during a performance.

Think of all the money spent on patterns and theory books, when you haven't been able to figure out how to use them in a solo.

The frustration trying to understand what theory you need to know and how to use it so you can sound like a pro.

So if you want to:

  • Play something new in the chord changes so you don't sound like you are just playing scales...
  • Break free of just learning patterns and not knowing what to do with them...
  • Stop improvising on Pentatonic scales only, because the ii-V-I progression does not come intuitively...
  • Just solo with CONFIDENCE...
